ABOUT US

The For Us By Us Market is a monthly community engagement farmers market curated to support black farmers and black owned health/wellness businesses. The goal is simple to create accessibility to healthy lifestyle purchases while circulating the American dollar in black communities.

The idea came to founder Jailaih Gowdy, a Mississippi native with a passion for health and wellness. When celebrating her 24th birthday on Black Out Tuesday in 2020, she wanted to get involved in fighting the injustices she'd seen plague her own community. Her main goal was to create a safe space for black communities to learn about health from black community healers. That's when she reached out to friend, community leader, and New Orleans native Alexis Smith for help. From that collaboration, birthed the idea of the For Us By Us Market.

With over 500 supporters with 25 active participating vendors and counting, the For Us By Us Market continues to be a thriving community space for all walks of life to learn more about their community and support the black business owners and healers who make it thrive.
